Hitachi airHome wall-mounted heat pumps heat your home in extreme cold, down to −30 °C with the airHome 800, and keep it cool and quiet all summer. FrostWash self-cleaning and an activated carbon PM2.5 filter keep the air healthy, season after season.
Hitachi’s residential airHome range brings together three series of wall-mounted heat pumps built for our winters: they heat a room or an open area in extreme cold, cool it quietly in summer, and keep their own components clean. Every indoor and outdoor unit goes through a functional test at the end of production, and the series undergoes stress and electrical discharge testing.
Three levels, the same expertise: the airHome 400, simple and economical; the airHome 600, which keeps 100 % of its heating power at −15 °C; and the airHome 800, the most efficient, which heats down to −30 °C. All of them use R-32 refrigerant and inverter technology, and our technicians install them according to industry best practices.

The technologies of Hitachi airHome heat pumps
Each series gets the technologies that matter for its use: the essentials done well on the airHome 400, extreme-cold power and smart automation on the airHome 600 and 800.
Vector DC Inverter
The compressor speeds up to reach the set temperature quickly, then slows down instead of constantly stopping and restarting. Hitachi rates the savings at 30 % compared with a conventional compressor.
HeatForce
On the airHome 600 and airHome 800, heating power holds up in extreme cold: 100 % of capacity at −15 °C for the 600, at −20 °C for the 800.
Adaptive defrost
A heating element in the outdoor unit’s condensate pan (600 and 800) makes defrosting more effective in cold weather and limits ice build-up.
Smart Eco
The presence sensor (600 and 800) notices an empty room: after 20 minutes, the unit switches to energy saving, then returns to your setting as soon as you come back.
SleepSense and GoodSleep
At night, the temperature adjusts gently: SleepSense (600 and 800) detects that you are asleep, GoodSleep (400) lowers the fan after the delay you choose.
Eco mode
One button on the airHome 400 remote adjusts the set point to reduce consumption, without sacrificing comfort.
Quiet operation
From 29 dB(A) for the wall unit in silent mode, and 30 dB(A) for the airHome 800, thanks to its wave-shaped fan blades. No disruptive on-off cycling.
R-32 refrigerant
A refrigerant with a low global warming potential and high energy efficiency, in line with new emission-reduction standards.
Healthier air, effortlessly
Dust, cooking grease and moisture build up on a wall unit’s heat exchanger. Hitachi tackles the problem at the source with FrostWash: the unit freezes and then melts the air’s moisture on its coil, and the water washes the impurities away. On the airHome 600 and 800, FrostWash 3.0 works in three steps and also cleans the outdoor unit.
1. Heat
The coil rises to 56 °C: greasy particles melt.
2. Freeze
It drops to −15 °C: dirt and pollutants are trapped in the ice.
3. Rinse
The ice melts and carries the impurities away: the heat exchanger is clean.

3 ×better at keeping airflow
Laboratory tests reported by Hitachi (Kitasato Research Center for Environmental Science, Japan), after a single FrostWash cycle on a test model. Airflow: two identical units after the equivalent of two years of dust and grease, −6 % with FrostWash versus −18 % without.
Activated carbon PM2.5 filter
It captures 99 % of fine 2.5 µm particles after 4.5 hours of operation, reduces volatile organic compounds and deodorizes the room. A stainless steel pre-filter stops larger dust.
Mold Guard
On the airHome 400 and airHome 600, Mold Guard circulates air through the unit for about 60 minutes and heats the coil to 50 °C to dry it. The airHome 800 goes further with Mold Guard 2.0: it monitors indoor temperature and humidity at all times, even when off, and dries the unit as soon as conditions favour mould, in 10 minutes or less.
DuraSpin
On the airHome 600 and 800, the outdoor fan spins in reverse to blow large dust out of the heat exchanger: the first step to an outdoor unit that stays clean and efficient.
Heating in extreme cold
The airHome 800 heats down to −30 °C and still delivers 100 % of its rated capacity at −20 °C; the airHome 600 heats down to −25 °C, with 100 % of its capacity at −15 °C; the airHome 400 heats down to −20 °C. The airHome 600 and 800 come standard with a heating element in the condensate pan, for effective defrosting in freezing rain. For snow, a protective roof is available as an accessory, and recommended.

Frequently asked questions about the Hitachi wall-mounted heat pump
Which Hitachi wall-mounted heat pump should I choose: airHome 400, 600 or 800?
The airHome 400 is the most affordable: heating down to −20 °C, capacities from 9,000 to 36,000 BTU and a 115 V model. The airHome 600 adds HeatForce technology (100 % of its capacity at −15 °C), heating down to −25 °C, the presence sensor and built-in Wi-Fi. The airHome 800 is the most efficient: up to 26.5 SEER2, 100 % of its capacity at −20 °C and heating down to −30 °C. During the free estimate, an advisor determines the series and the capacity that suit your room.
Down to what temperature does a Hitachi wall-mounted heat pump heat?
Down to −30 °C for the airHome 800, −25 °C for the airHome 600 and −20 °C for the airHome 400. The airHome 800 still delivers 100 % of its rated capacity at −20 °C, and the airHome 600 at −15 °C. Maximum capacities, temperature by temperature, are in the Extreme cold section.
What is FrostWash technology?
It is Hitachi’s self-cleaning: the unit freezes the air’s moisture on its heat exchanger, then melts it, and the water carries away dust and impurities. FrostWash 3.0 (airHome 600 and 800) first heats the coil to 56 °C to melt grease, also cleans the outdoor unit and can start automatically when the room is empty.
Is a Hitachi wall-mounted heat pump quiet?
Yes. In silent mode, the wall unit goes down to 29 dB(A) for the 9,000 and 12,000 BTU airHome 400 and 600, and to 30 dB(A) for the 9,000 and 12,000 BTU airHome 800. Inverter technology avoids disruptive on-off cycling.
What is the warranty on Hitachi wall-mounted heat pumps?
With online registration, at no cost for a home, Hitachi covers the compressor for 10 years and parts for 10 years (without registration: 7 years and 5 years). Labour is guaranteed for 10 years.
How much is the LogisVert rebate for a Hitachi wall-mounted heat pump?
Hydro-Québec pays $120 for every 1,000 BTU/h of heating at −8 °C. For a 12,000 BTU unit, that is $1,008 (airHome 400), $1,128 (airHome 600) and $1,320 (airHome 800), and up to $2,100 for the 24,000 BTU airHome 400. The 9,000 BTU models and the 36,000 BTU airHome 400 are not eligible. Details on our Rebates page.
What do SEER2, HSPF2 and COP mean?
SEER2 measures a heat pump’s seasonal efficiency in cooling, and HSPF2 its efficiency in heating. The higher these numbers, the less electricity the unit uses for the same comfort. The Hitachi wall-mounted range goes from 18.3 to 26.5 SEER2 and from 9.2 to 12 HSPF2. The COP at −15 °C, measured by ENERGY STAR, tells how many units of heat the unit produces in extreme cold for each unit of electricity: from 1.90 to 2.57 for the Hitachi wall-mounted range. At 2, it delivers twice as much heat as an electric baseboard for the same electricity.
How much does an installed Hitachi wall-mounted heat pump cost?
The price depends on the series, the capacity needed and the layout of your home. Ask for a free estimate: an advisor recommends the right model, with no commitment.
