York central heat pumps stand out for their unique manufacturing. All materials are specially chosen to last. This starts with the heat exchanger which is made of aluminum to give the best possible energy efficiency and the superior insulation that is part of York central heat pumps. It is not surprising to save considerably on your heating bill, because it is not electrical elements that provide you with heat, it is rather heat that is extracted from the compressor of your York central heat pump which is then distributed in the coil of the furnace.

York Exclusive Superior Hot Heat Pump Technology
Compared to standard heat pumps, all affinity models feature York’s exclusive Superior Hot Heat Pump Technology. Powered by a variable speed blower, this technology combines the efficiency of a scroll compressor with a sophisticated control system that eliminates cold air diffusion and reduces operating costs. Hot air diffused through the register grille can reach up to 37°C.
Ultra-low noise
The innovative fan design creates less vibration and ensures quieter operation, with noise levels as low as a dishwasher at 54 dBA (36% quieter than a standard model).
Modulating technology maintains precise temperatures by operating from 35% to 100% capacity to achieve the exact degree of heating required
Heating in extreme cold
The four York HH8 combinations shown are ENERGY STAR Cold Climate certified. At −15 °C, their COP is 2: they still produce twice as much heat as an electric baseboard for the same electricity. Here is the heat each capacity produces at −8 °C, in BTU/h, according to its certification:

The fully electronic defrost on demand control module
The brain of the York affinity series, its primary function is to reduce defrost frequency by up to 40%, increasing energy efficiency and the life of the unit. Using an electronic analyzer to determine anomalies and multi-point temperature reading functions, the system performs its own diagnostics. It automatically shuts down the unit if necessary, while notifying you with a flashing indicator light.
Increased compressor protection
The compressor is protected against abnormal pressures and temperatures by a pressure relief valve, an internal temperature sensor and a high and low pressure control.
York’s Unique ClimaTrak Mode
When your unit is paired with a York variable speed furnace it allows your York installer to adjust the motor in your furnace and heat pump to work best for your climate. With ClimaTrak and the YorkGuard VI, the operating cycle of your furnace and heat pump will be better suited to your home, whether you live in a dry, temperate or humid area. The operation is simple, if the unit detects that your home is cooling too quickly or that the humidity level is too high in cooling mode, the fan motor speed will be reduced to improve the indoor humidity level.
Central Heat Pump Buying Guide
Everything you need to know before buying a central heat pump.
YORK has been an industry leader since its founding in 1874. In 1914, we created a revolutionary “airwasher” system that was the precursor to modern air conditioning. In 1924, the world’s first air-conditioned office building used YORK equipment. And today, YORK products heat and cool some of the world’s most iconic structures, including the Empire State Building, the United States Capitol, the English Chunnel, the Sydney Opera House and more.

Built to Perform.
Exceeding customer expectations requires continuous improvement and attention to detail. York believes that quality comes first. Designing and engineering YORK HVAC units in the USA ensures that we can closely monitor and improve the processes that directly affect quality. It takes more than metal and circuitry to make a unit; it takes people with integrity and a continued dedication to quality.
Commitment also requires investment. That’s why York is expanding its testing facilities and growing its workforce in the USA, ensuring that YORK HVAC products and professionals continue to lead the industry.
Up to $4,488 in LogisVert rebates
The four combinations shown are ENERGY STAR Cold Climate certified: Hydro-Québec pays $120 for every 1,000 BTU/h of heating measured at −8 °C. For a central heat pump, the amount depends on the combination installed — outdoor unit, indoor equipment and, if applicable, furnace. The amounts below are those of the combinations with the York JHE air handler; your advisor confirms the amount for your installation.

Frequently asked questions about the York central heat pump
Which York HH8 central heat pump should I choose: 2, 3, 4 or 5 tons?
The capacity depends on your home: its size, its insulation and your ductwork. The HH8 comes in 2 tons (HH824), 3 tons (HH836) and in 4 or 5 tons with a single outdoor unit, the HH860, whose capacity is set at installation. During the free estimate, an advisor determines the right capacity and indoor equipment.
Does a York central heat pump heat in extreme cold?
Yes. The four combinations shown are ENERGY STAR Cold Climate certified. At −8 °C, they produce from 17,800 BTU/h (2 tons) to 37,400 BTU/h (5 tons), and at −15 °C their COP is 2: twice as much heat as an electric baseboard for the same electricity. Its Inverter compressor modulates from 35 % to 100 % of its capacity to deliver exactly the heat required.
Which indoor equipment does the York HH8 heat pump work with?
With an air handler or with a coil installed on a furnace. The amounts on this page are those of the York JHE air handler. According to York, the HH8 can also be paired with an existing gas furnace, even of another brand, to create a hybrid system, and it is compatible with conventional 24 V thermostats.
What is the warranty on the York HH8 central heat pump?
The HH8 is covered by a 10-year limited warranty on parts and a 10-year warranty on the compressor, subject to the terms, conditions and exclusions of York’s limited warranty statement. Labour is guaranteed for 10 years.
How much is the LogisVert rebate for a York central heat pump?
For an ENERGY STAR Cold Climate certified heat pump, Hydro-Québec pays $120 for every 1,000 BTU/h of heating measured at −8 °C. With the York JHE air handler, that is $2,136 for 2 tons, $3,408 for 3 tons, $3,984 for 4 tons and $4,488 for 5 tons. For a central system, the amount depends on the combination installed: your advisor confirms the amount for your installation. Details on our Rebates page.
What do SEER2, HSPF2 and COP mean?
SEER2 measures a heat pump’s seasonal efficiency in cooling, and HSPF2 its efficiency in heating. The higher these numbers, the less electricity the unit uses for the same comfort. The York HH8 combinations shown reach 19 SEER2, and 8.5 to 9.5 HSPF2. The COP at −15 °C, measured by ENERGY STAR, tells how many units of heat the unit produces in extreme cold for each unit of electricity: 2.00 for the York central range shown here. At 2, it delivers twice as much heat as an electric baseboard for the same electricity.
How do I maintain a York central heat pump?
Replace your central system’s filter every 3 to 6 months, keep the outdoor unit clear of snow, ice and leaves, and have the system inspected once a year by a certified technician. We offer heat pump cleaning.
How much does an installed York central heat pump cost?
The price depends on the capacity needed, the indoor equipment and the layout of your home. Ask for a free estimate: an advisor recommends the right combination, with no commitment.
