MAINTENANCE BY THE USER
Electric hot air generator (electric furnace)

Air filters

First, there are several types of filters for residential applications: disposable, washable and electronic. In terms of disposable filters, several choices are also offered with different filtration quality, this is called “MERV”.

In certain types of installation, the air filter is in a support fixed to the jacket of the heater, or installed in the return air duct. If the location of the filter or the replacement process is not obvious, contact your installer or service technician for help. Replace the disposable filters with new filters of the same size.

The following items should be visually checked each time the filters are replaced:

Check that all components of the furnace are in good condition and that there are no obvious signs of deterioration.
Check for dirt, dust and the like on all electrical surfaces and components. Do not try to clean them. The heater and its components must be cleaned by a qualified and certified service technician.

During the inspection of your heater, if you observe any of the following situations

An abnormal amount of dirt, dust and the like on the electrical components.
Damaged or deteriorated surfaces or parts.
Leaks or obstructions of air passages at the level of the ventilation duct network.
Any wet surface inside or outside the furnace.

Do not operate the heater. Contact an authorized technician or maintenance contractor to inspect or clean your appliances.

If all parts appear to be in good working order, replace the front panels of the furnace. Restore power to the heater, and set the thermostat to the desired temperature.

How to clean your filter

It is extremely important to shut down your system and turn off the power before servicing or replacing filters.

Disposable filters should be replaced at the end of their useful life depending on how you use your ventilation system. Replace the disposable filters with new filters of the same size. You can now use washable filters to replace disposable filters. The high velocity filters (washable) can be cleaned with a vacuum cleaner or rinsed with a water jet (sink). Be sure to shake the filters to remove excess water, and allow them to dry completely before replacing them.

Fan and motor maintenance

Even if the right filters are used, and properly installed, the fan wheels and motors will become loaded with dust and dirt after a few months of operation. The entire fan assembly should be inspected and serviced annually.

Engine lubrication

The motors of the new heaters are permanently lubricated and do not require periodic lubrication. However, older engines require annual lubrication.

Motor maintenance

Once a year or at the start of each heating / air conditioning season, the hot air generator (electric furnace) must be cleaned and fine-tuned, which must be carried out by an authorized technician or a qualified maintenance contractor. The following items should be cleaned and maintained, or replaced if they show signs of deterioration.

The components of electrical elements
The air supply fan

MAINTENANCE BY THE USER
Central heating system

It is strongly recommended that you contact your certified contractor to have your air conditioning and central heating system periodically inspected, cleaned, lubricated and adjusted.

Warning

Turn off the power supply to the blower and the hot air generator before removing the service panels and performing maintenance work. Turn off the power to the indoor and outdoor units (there may be more than one service switch). An electric shock of this intensity can result in serious injury, which can result in death.

Caution

Particular attention was paid during the manufacturing of your unit to ensure a safe finishing of the components. However, be careful when removing or

Maintenance of the condenser (heat pump or air conditioner)

The outdoor unit must be clear of all outdoor material, such as plants, herbs, leaves, paper, pollen or any other waste that may restrict the air vents entering or leaving the outdoor unit. The coil can be sucked off with a vacuum cleaner to clear any scrap between the aluminum fins.

If the coil becomes excessively dirty, turn off the power supply to the appliance and clean the coil using a hose with no pressure jet. Avoid getting water into the blower motor or electrical control box. Drain the dirt from the tank below the appliance after cleaning the coil.

Fan motor maintenance

Some fan motors have lubrication holes (this is not the case with new devices). Inspect your indoor and outdoor units to determine if lubrication holes are included in your devices.

The fan motors are delivered with an oil tank which should last for several years under normal conditions of use. After this period, each engine ball bearing system should be oiled with 10 to 15 drops (1/4 tsp) of SAE 20, a non-detergent electric motor oil. DO NOT use oils for specific uses such as for sewing machine, for cleaning, rust prevention, household, etc.

MAINTENANCE BY THE USER
Wall-mounted heat pump or Wall-mounted air conditioner

Before cleaning your wall-mounted air conditioning system, be sure to turn off the power and disconnect the power supply.

Cleaning the evaporator (indoor unit)

Clean the indoor unit with a vacuum cleaner, scrub the unit with warm, soapy water, then dry with a soft, clean cloth.

During a period of normal operation, the filter included in the device should be cleaned every two weeks of use. If dust accumulates on the filter, the air flow will be considerably reduced, which will lower the operating efficiency at will increase the noise of and the energy consumption of the device. The dust must be eliminated either by a vacuum cleaner, either by washing in a solution of mild detergent and lukewarm water. If you are cleaning the filter, be sure to let it dry completely before reinstalling it in your appliance

If your device has a plasma filter, an indicator light will notify you when it needs to be cleaned. To clean it, soak it in warm soapy water. The lifespan of plasma filters is 6 to 8 years.

Cleaning the condenser (outdoor unit)

To keep your device in good condition, external cleaning is essential. Just wipe the unit with a damp cloth or a dry cloth and with a garden hose make sure the outdoor coil is free of litter or pollen.

Finally, the entire system requires special care, a maintenance contract could prove to be a necessity in the event of specific maintenance which would require the services of a professional.
