What is a heat pump’s auto mode?
Auto mode lets your unit switch between heating mode and cooling mode without you having to step in. The goal is to keep a constant temperature inside the house.
How does auto mode work?
Based on the set point temperature you have chosen, the heat pump determines whether it needs to heat or cool.
The outdoor unit reads the outdoor air conditions and adjusts the production of warm or cool air to maintain optimal comfort. This way, you no longer have to keep juggling your heating system and your air conditioning system.
In general, we recommend setting the temperature between 20 °C and 22 °C for heating, and around 23 °C to 25 °C for cooling. These guidelines promote both comfort and energy efficiency, while ensuring consistent comfort whether you heat a single room or your entire home.
Which types of heat pumps offer this feature?
Most models include this feature, whether it is a wall-mounted heat pump, a central heat pump or a multi-zone system.
In every case, the principle is the same: the unit selects heating or cooling mode on its own, based on the set point temperature and the outdoor temperatures. This guarantees consistent comfort, whether you need to heat a single room or your entire home.
When should you use your heat pump in auto mode?
When the seasons change
In spring and fall, temperatures can vary a lot between morning and evening. Auto mode automatically adjusts your heat pump so the house stays comfortable.
When you are away for long periods
If you spend long hours away from home, auto mode keeps the house at a stable temperature without you constantly having to step in. You come back to a home that is already comfortable, with no extra adjustments.
To avoid repeated adjustments
If you prefer simplicity, auto mode is an excellent option. Just set the temperature you want and the system automatically adjusts how it operates.
The limits of auto mode
In the depths of winter
During the intense cold of winter, it is best to select heating mode manually to maximize the production of warm air.
During a heat wave
When temperatures soar, cooling mode provides faster and more constant cooling than auto mode.
Listen to your own comfort
Auto mode is practical, but it is not foolproof. Trust your own comfort and do not hesitate to change the settings manually if the temperature you feel does not meet your expectations.
