For your home or condo, you’ve opted for a new wall-mounted heat pump as your heating and cooling system. Congratulations! You’ll soon be enjoying greater comfort in all seasons, thanks to this economical and environmentally-friendly device.
Easier to install than central heat pumps – wall-mounted units don’t require ventilation ducts – they still require compliance with essential criteria to ensure optimal operation and durability.
9 Steps for Installing a Wall-mounted Heat Pump
-
Select the indoor unit location.
Ideally, the indoor unit should be positioned on a wall facing directly outside. This facilitates connection to the outdoor module. Of course, the location must meet the manufacturer’s specifications, and the wall must be solid enough to support the unit’s weight. Avoid locations exposed to direct sunlight.
The wall must also be strategically located. Where do you want the heat and cool to be distributed? Think about the rooms you use most. Is it a common room like the living room or dining room, or rather the bedroom or your office? This will influence the decision and help determine where to install the unit.
-
Choose the location for the outdoor unit.
In addition to directly facing the indoor unit, optimal positioning requires sufficient space to ensure proper anchoring and stability. This part of the wall-mounted heat pump will be fastened either to brackets in the concrete foundation, or to floor slabs.
-
Installing components.
The mounting plate must be perfectly level and firmly anchored to the studs. At this stage, we’ll also install the refrigerant and drain lines to the outside, ensuring proper drain flow and efficient circulation of refrigerant gas between the two units. The hole for the electrical wiring will also be drilled.
-
Electrical check.
Electrical connections should be checked to ensure that they comply with the manufacturer’s requirements.
-
Pipe connection.
Once the pipes have been properly covered with their insulating jacket, they will be laid in the appropriate places on the wall-mounted heat pump’s indoor unit. The drain pipe is then installed in the pre-determined hole, and the electrical cable can be run from the inside to the outside.
-
Installing the outdoor unit.
Always following the manufacturer’s instructions and the required clearance zones, we install the outdoor unit on the wall or on the floor. Note that the addition of anti-vibration pads is required to minimize indoor noise.
-
Finalizing connections.
Now it’s time to make the final pipe and electrical connections, following the manufacturer’s instructions.
-
Calibration and start-up.
First, we must empty the system using a vacuum pump. Then, we will calibrate the correct refrigerant gas charge before starting up the wall-mounted heat pump for the first time, referring to the instruction booklet.

Enjoy your comfort!
